Something amazing happened the other day. I asked my husband to make lunch and gave him a recipe, went into my bedroom to work for a couple of hours, and then came out to a hot lunch that I didn’t have to make! What??
Friends, ask for help. Ask. For. Help.
Even if you believe that you have to do everything and even if you worry that you might be a burden to someone else and even if you’re certain that no one else could possibly do it as well as you can, you never know. They might surprise you.
And even if they don’t, you might be so glad to have the help that you don’t actually care how the thing is done as much as you thought you did.
And just to be clear, this was delicious, and has definitely found a spot in our regular rotation, though we will soon be swapping out the barley for a gluten free grain.
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 4 garlic cloves minced
- 1 potato, chopped
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 3/4 cup pearl barley
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/3 cup vegetable broth powder
- 8 cups water
Add all ingredients to a pot and hear over medium until everything is cooked.
It is always soup season at my house. I’m going to go warm up another bowl of it right now.
